Sono molto orgoglioso di inserire questo brano nel mio blog,perchè è rimasto nella mia testa per anni,però,non avendolo ascoltato per parecchio tempo,quasi non lo ricordavo più.Poi qualche giorno fà,per caso,l'hanno mandato alla radio,da quel momento in poi,non ho mai smesso di cantarlo.Ha un ritornello che ti si stampa nel cervello,e non puoi fare a meno di suonarlo.

Cutting Corners è il terzo album in studio del gruppo svedese dei Secret Service, pubblicato nel 1982 per l'etichetta discografica Sonet Records. Da questo album è stato successivamente estratto il singolo Flash in the Night che risulterà il brano di maggior successo per la band.
Flash In The Night è un brano, pubblicato per la prima volta come quarta traccia dell'album Cutting Corners.appartenente al genere synth pop la cui musica è stata composta dal tastierista del gruppo Tim Norell. Bjorn Hakansson si è invece occupato della stesura del testo.e' stato successivamente estratto come singolo assieme al brano Watching Julietta, presente come lato B.

Il brano è a tutt'oggi il più conosciuto dei Secret Service. Al momento della pubblicazione il singolo fu certificato con il disco d'oro in patria, mentre riuscì ad entrare nella Top 10 di quattro Paesi europei al momento della pubblicazione (in Portogallo, dove raggiunse il primo posto, in Finlandia, in Italia e in Svezia). Per il brano è stato registrato anche un videoclip in cui il gruppo si muove di notte per il centro di Stoccolma.

Splendida canzone di Nik Kershaw,il primo singolo di successo,ovvero il primo stampato nel 1983 ed arrivato soltanto all posizione 47 della UK inglese,ma che dopo il successo di "Wouldn't It Be Good",ristampato nel 1984,è arrivato al n°2 della UK.Mi piace molto,perchè secondo me è un classico degli 80,ed ha le sonorità tipiche che hanno contraddistinto questo artista.

Sebbene nato a Bristol, Kershaw è cresciuto a Ipswich. Dopo aver lasciato la scuola nel 1976, Kershaw ha lavorato come assistente presso il Dipartimento di impiego per diversi anni, durante i quali ha suonato la chitarra e cantato in un certo numero di band di Ipswich underground. Tuttavia, insieme al gruppo dei Fusion, divisi nel 1982, ha intrapreso una carriera a tempo pieno come un cantautore e performer.Nel 1983, ha firmato un contratto con la MCA Records, che generato il suo singolo di debutto, "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me". All'inizio del 1984, esce "Wouldn't It Be Good",che lancia definitivamente Nik.La canzone ha raggiunto Numero 4 in UK Singles Chart, e fu un grande successo in Europa, soprattutto in Germania, Italia, Svizzera e in Scandinavia.Ha goduto di più di tre Top 20 hits dal suo album di debutto Human Racing, compresa la title track e di una ristampa di successo del suo singolo di debutto "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me".Questa traccia è stato il suo più grande successo,avendo raggiunto il n°2 nella UK.

Ho inserito questa canzone che è del 2008,perchè mi ricorda tantissimo il sound anni 80.I ritmi e gli strumenti usati,come i campionatori,sono tipici di quel periodo,ed in questo brano vengono fuori alla grande.Sembra di ascoltare una canzone dei primi periodi della carriera di Kylie,ed infatti mi fà impazzire.Penso che sarà una buona hit.

In My Arms è il titolo del secondo singolo estratto dall'album X di Kylie Minogue.Il singolo, estratto ovunque tranne in Australia, Stati Uniti e Regno Unito dove la scelta è ricaduta su "Wow", è in uscita nel febbraio del 2008.Il video è stato girato tra il 15 ed il 16 gennaio 2008 a Los Angeles. In attesa del video ufficiale Kylie ha presentato la canzone a NRJ Awards in Francia in cui ha ricevuto anche un premio alla carriera.

Shock The Monkey - Peter Gabriel

Non poteva mancare nella mia lista di canzoni preferite,questa di Peter Gabriel,ha un ritmo incalzante, che ti trascina.Ricordo che al tempo la ascoltavo continuamente senza stancarmi mai.E' per me,la canzone elttronica perfetta,non è sicuramente tra le canzoni di cui il Peter Gabriel di ora,ne và fiero,ma secondo me è un capolavoro di tecnica e d'ingegno musicale.

Peter Gabriel abbandona, nel 1974,il gruppo dei Genesis,di cui ne era stato il leader indiscusso, per avventurarsi in una fortunata carriera solista che ben poco conserverà dell'esperienza precedente.

Gabriel si è rifiutato di dare un titolo ai suoi primi quattro album da solista poiché voleva che fossero considerati come dei numeri di una rivista più che come opere indipendenti. Questi primi album vengono comunemente differenziati usando un numero secondo l'ordine di pubblicazione o a seconda dell'immagine di copertina. Abbiamo dunque I, II, III e IV o anche rispettivamente Car, Scratch, Melt e Security. Anche dopo aver acconsentito a dare un titolo ai suoi lavori, Peter Gabriel ha sempre usato parole di una sillaba: So, Us e Up. Anche la sua ultima raccolta di successi ha un titolo molto breve, Hit.

Peter Gabriel (IV o Security), è il quarto album della carriera solista del musicista inglese Peter Gabriel. L'album è stato pubblicato, come i precedenti tre, senza titolo e viene dunque identificato dal suo numero progressivo; negli Stati Uniti però, la Geffen Records decise di assegnarli un titolo che è poi diventato identificativo: Security. È da ricordare però che Peter Gabriel non accetta questo nome, preferendo riferersi ai suoi primi quattro album semplicemente con I, II, III e IV.

Security è il primo album della storia ad essere stato registrato digitalmente, modalità che ne ha esaltato il suono elettronico e l'uso massiccio di campionature (grazie al famoso sintentizzatore Fairlight). Come gli altri album dell'artista inglese, anche IV è stato rimasterizzato nel 2002.

Le canzoni di quest'album affrontano una grande varietà di temi. "The Rhythm of the Heat" è basata su un'esperienza fatta da Carl Jung mentre osservava un gruppo di percussionisti africani. "San Jacinto" riflette sulla paura e sul dolore che i Nativi americani provarono vedendo la loro cultura sopraffatta da quella dell'uomo bianco. "Shock the Monkey" è una meditazione sulla gelosia e usa l'immagine di un primate per descrivere le proprie ansie personali. "Lay Your Hands on Me" tratta il tema della guarigione, argomento poi approfondito in altri album. "The Family and the Fishing Net" è una canzone che paragona un moderno matrimonio a un rito pagano di sacrificio. "Wallflower" racconta invece la storia del sindacalista polacco Lech Wałęsa, che trascorse una parte della sua vita internato in un manicomio.

Broken Land - Adventures

Brano un pò dimenticato,per quanto è bello,si ascolta pochissimo nelle radio e non capisco il perchè.Anche se il gruppo non è tra i più famosi del periodo,credo che questa canzone sia tra le più belle degli anni 80.Il video non è granchè,ma questo poco importa,poichè le sonorità sono pulite ed il risultato che ne esce è,secondo me,meraviglioso.La ascolto sempre con molto piacere,ed anche gli altri singoli,tipo "The Sea Of Love",che dà il titolo all'album,mi piacciono molto.

Purtroppo,anche sulla rete si trovano poche informazioni,su questa band.The Adventures sono una rock band formatasi a Belfast nel 1980,si trasferiscono a Londra dove entrano a far parte della UK Chart,a cavallo tra il 1980 ed il 1990.I componenti del gruppo sono:Terry Sharpe vocals,Eileen Gribben vocals,Gerry "Spud" Murphy chitarra e percussioni,Tony Ayre basso,Paul Crowder batteria, e Pat Gribben chitarra.La loro più grande hit,"Broken Land",scritta dal chitarrista Pat Gribben,ha raggiunto il numero 20 nella UK Chart inglese,ed è stato il brano più suonato nella BBC Radio 1 nel 1988.

Spettacolare brano della musica new romantic britannica,di questo gruppo, che nonostante avesse creato splendida musica, è sparito quasi subito.Devo ringraziare il mio amico Jackson per avermi ricordato questa fantastica canzone,che ho prontamente inserito tra le mie preferite.

Fade to Grey è il secondo singolo del gruppo musicale britannico Visage. Il brano è stato uno dei loro singoli di maggior successo, oltre ad essere considerato dalla critica uno dei pezzi più rappresentativi del periodo e del genere new romantic. Il singolo è stato registrato nei Genetic Sound Studios e pubblicato poi sotto l'etichetta Polygram Records il 10 novembre 1980. La canzone spopolò tra le piste da ballo e scalò le classifiche nei primi mesi del 1981.

Una prima bozza della canzone fu inizialmente composta da Billy Currie e Christopher Payne. Solo più tardi Midge Ure, che si stava dedicando ai testi dell'album dei Visage, decise, su suggerimento di Billy, di abbinare i suoi testi alla melodia propostagli. Steve Strange prese quindi lezioni di canto assieme a Midge Ure per potere infine registrare la canzone. Gary Numan in seguito dichiarò in un intervista: "per quanto mi riguarda credo che Billy e Chris siano stati il motore principale dietro Fade to Grey. Entrambi ci hanno lavorato durante i soundcheck del mio tour del '79."

Per quanto riguarda il significato del testo, Steve Strange diede la sua spiegazione al magazine Bravo: "Non molto tempo fa sono stato a Berlino, e attraverso il muro ho dato uno sguardo a Berlino Est [...]; tutto mi appariva cupo e grigio, strano, minaccioso. Subito dopo ho visto un uomo anziano camminare stanco con un bastone. Sì, stanco e deluso dalla vita. È stato in quel momento che l'idea di Fade to Grey aveva preso forma: entrare nella vecchiaia, nell'oscurità, sprofondare nel niente. È questo ciò di cui parla la canzone". È tuttavia da ricordare che i testi non furono comunque scritti da Steve.

Nel 1993 viene pubblicato un remix della canzone ad opera di Bassheads/Andi allo scopo di promuovere la raccolta Best of Visage, che entra poi nella top 40 degli album più venduti. Oltre a questo remix esistono svariate cover e riarrangiamenti di questa canzone, interpretati da diversi artisti.

Billy Currie e Midge Ure sono stati anche membri degli Ultravox.

Una versione rara quella del gruppo italiano Datura. Questa versione è l'unica che utilizza il cantato di Steve Strange.

Nel 2005 ci fu una disputa riguardo una forte somiglianza tra Fade to Grey e il singolo di Kelly Osbourne One Word. Billy Currie accusò infatti l'autore dei testi, Linda Perry, di violazione di copyright e assieme a Midge Ure e Christopher Payne intraprese vie legali. La questione si risolse in un pagamento di royalties da parte di Linda Perry per ogni copia venduta del singolo.

Nel 2006 il cantante italiano Tiziano Ferro ha pubblicato il singolo Stop! Dimentica, versione non autorizzata del singolo di Kelly Osbourne.

Gran pezzo,bellissima canzone,un classico degli anni 80.E' uno dei brani che mi riportano precisamente ai tempi delle scuole medie,quando facevo ancora le gite e nel pullman giravano delle musiche tra cui c'era sicuramente anche questa.Ascoltandola,riassaporo quegli odori e quelle sensazioni,di quando ero ragazzo,quindi la amo molto.

Gli Industry si formano a New York agli inizi degli anni '80. Sono una "studio band" votata a produrre brani synth-pop, composta da Jon Carin (synthesizer/tastiere/voce), Mercury Caronia (synthesizer/percussioni), Rudy Perrone (chitarra/basso/voce, già membro della hard-prog band "Cathedral") e Brian Madden (chitarra/voce). Tra il 1983 e il 1984 il loro singolo State Of The Nation sbaraglia le classifiche di tutto il mondo, specialmente in Asia. Il sound è ammaliante, il testo della canzone offre una lettura in chiave antimilitarista. Nel 1984 esce l'unico loro album, dal titolo Stranger To Stranger che comprende anche il secondo singolo Still of the Night. Il resto della loro carriera non corrisponde alle aspettative del gruppo: si esibiscono come band di supporto a grandi artisti del tempo, quali Billy Idol, Talk Talk e INXS, quindi ognuno se ne va per la sua strada. Jon Carin presta la sua opera per alcuni big della musica, tra cui Bryan Ferry e i Pink Floyd. Brian Madden nel 1995 forma il gruppo MaddenRae e si dedica al folk. Esiste una leggenda, alquanto inverosimile secondo la quale il gruppo scomparve in un incidente aereo di ritorno dalle Filippine.
